Verifying your identification

Your CMC Markets Invest account will open when your ID has been confirmed or we’ve electronically identified you.

The following guidelines outline what identification is accepted.

Verification documents

Each applicant must provide certified (true) copies of documents verifying their identity. Find more information on how to certify your documents.

You must provide a document from Part A.

Part A

  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence (front and back).

If you don’t have a document from Part A, you must provide one document from Part B and one document from Part C.

Part B

  • Current Australian passport or expired within the past two years.
  • Current Overseas passport with signature page showing.
  • Current Medicare card.
  • Current Proof of Age Card (front and back).
  • Birth certificate or birth extract issued by a State or Territory.
  • Australian citizenship certificate issued by Commonwealth.
  • Current Pension or Benefit Card issued by Commonwealth (front and back).

Part C

  • A financial statement (saving, credit, mortgage) issued by one of the Approved Deposit-taking Institutions (ADIs) in Australia or otherwise for accounts opened in a foreign jurisdiction, a registered bank in the foreign jurisdiction. Electronic Statements issued by any institutions including ADIs may be accepted at CMC Markets’ discretion.
  • Gas, electricity, water, home phone, internet (dial-up, broadband), mobile phone or Foxtel bill.
  • Council rates notice.
  • Notice or assessment issued by the RTA or a government body.
  • Lease agreement, contract for sale of a property or rental bond lodgement document.
  • Home and/or contents insurance policy statement.
  • Current Rating Authority (bill sighted) within preceding three months.
  • A document issued by the Australian Government/Taxation Office within the preceding 12 months that records a debt payable by the individual to the Commonwealth (or by the Commonwealth to the individual), which contains the individual’s name and residential address. Block out the TFN before scanning, copying or storing this document.
  • A document issued by a public utilities provider within the preceding three months which records the provision of services.
