Jerome Powell testimony provides price action across the board

AirBnB has posted some solid gains of late off the back of a broker upgrade and Tuesday’s gains were sufficient to see the stock find itself as one of the most active on the day. Although closing a couple of dollars down from session highs, one day volatility stood at 94.18% against 73.79% for the month.

After the head of the Federal Reserve warned yesterday that interest rates would likely rise faster and further than had been previously expected, this took a toll on US equity markets with banks being left to look particularly vulnerable. As a result, CMC’s proprietary basket of 20 US banking stocks posted some meaningful losses with one day volatility coming in at 41.17% against 29.2% for the month.

That US rate hike news took a toll on Hong Kong’s equity market too, with downbeat economic news out of China reversing early gains. One day vol on the Hang Seng stood at 36.78% against 26.24% for the month.

That testimony from the Federal Reserve boosted the US dollar across the board, but it was against the Aussie Dollar that we saw the highest levels of action. Yesterday’s 25 basis point rate hike by the RBA was seen by some as being overdone and that likely exaggerated movement here. One day volatility on AUD/USD printed 16.76%, well up from the one month reading of 12.04%.

Market Data

Market Data Classification

When creating a new ‘user’, the white label partner must select between two classification options for the purposes of market data, ‘Private Investor’ or ‘Non-Private Investor’. Please note: This does not relate in any way to the classification ‘Professional’ or ‘Retail’ for the purposes of regulatory classification. In simple terms ‘Private Investors’ are individual people (rather than companies) who are using market data (prices in the platform) in a simple personal capacity and not for any business or commercial purpose. As such ‘Private Investors’ are subject to lower market data fees at an exchange level than ‘Non Private Investors’. Further definitions can be found on the .

Collection storage and use of client personal information is on the market data form. As an eligible counterparty the white label partner is responsible for all client due diligence and CMC Markets do not need to store personal end client details for regulatory purposes however for the purposes of some exchanges who provide market data to CMC Markets there is a legal reporting obligation, this is the reason the information is stored. CMC Markets will use this information for reporting purposes (with relevant exchange) only and will never market to or contact these clients.

Price Subscription Fees & Partner Charges Account

There are two forms of market data fee:

The first is charged at a client level with fees being deducted from the individual trading account only at the point when clients subscribe to a particular set of data. E.g Italian Equities. Clients can subscribe for up to a maximum of one month at a time and fees are detailed within the platform clearly before market data is provided. Not all market data is subject to a fee. For example, FX and Indices, Commodities and Treasuries and some Equities are free of charges.

White label partner employee users can also subscribe to data either on behalf of a client or on behalf of the white label partner. If they subscribe on behalf of the white label partner, the white label pays the fee. If they subscribe on behalf of the client, the client pays the fee. Client market data subscription fees are eligible for automatic monthly rebates provided five or more trades per month are placed in the relevant market. Details of these rebates are available via the platform.

The second form of market data fee is charged at a partner level. E.g By CMC to the white label partner via the Broker Cash Accounts. These fees are debited from the ‘Partner Charge’ Cash Account on a monthly basis. Charges will depend on what licenses the white label partner holds with the relevant exchange. For further information, please contact your Relationship Manager who will discuss and agree which markets are made available within the white label system for clients to subscribe to and any applicable fees.

All usage of market data is reported to the relevant exchange via CMC Markets dedicated Market Data team. This team is available for professional consultation directly with our white label partners upon request. If a meeting is required your Relationship Manager will be happy to facilitate this.
