Spread bets and CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 68% of retail investor accounts lose money when spread betting and/or trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how spread bets, CFDs, OTC options or any of our other products work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

CFD commission rates explained

When trading share CFDs (contracts for difference) on our platform, a commission is charged to your account when you execute an order. View our examples to learn how we calculate commission on share CFDs. You can also see our commission rates by country in the table below.

KEY POINTS

  • Commission fees only apply to contracts for difference (CFDs), not spread bets
  • Charges will vary depending on the country that the share originates from
  • This can come in the form of a percentage or fixed monetary value
  • Only the share market is affected
  • All charges will be converted to your account currency at our prevailing currency conversion rate

Spanish share examples

The commission rate on a Spanish share CFD is 0.10%, subject to a minimum commission charge of €9.00.

A 2500 unit trade in Banco Santander at a price of 5.20 would incur a commission of €13.00 based on the following calculation:

2500 (units) x 5.20 (price) = €13,000 x 0.10% = €13.00

But a 1000 unit trade in Banco Santander at a price of 5.20 would incur a minimum commission charge of €9.00

1000 (units) x 5.20 (price) = €5200 x 0.10% = €5.20

Since the actual commission on this trade is less than our €9.00 minimum commission charge, we have instead applied the minimum commission charge of €9.00.

US share example

The commission for a US share is 2 US cents per share, subject to a minimum commission charge of $10.

So a 600 unit trade in Caterpillar at a price of 80.95 would incur a commission of $12.00 based on the following calculation:

600 (units) x $0.02 (commission charge per unit) = $12.00

But a 300 unit trade in Caterpillar at a price of 80.95 would incur a minimum commission charge of $10.00 based on the following calculation:

300 (units) x $0.02 (commission charge per unit) = $6.00

The actual commission on this trade is less than the $10.00 minimum commission charge on US share CFDs, so instead the minimum commission charge of $10.00 is applied.
