Spread bets and CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 69% of retail investor accounts lose money when spread betting and/or trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how spread bets, CFDs, OTC options or any of our other products work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Live Accounts

How do I apply for an account with CMC Markets?

Apply online for a free demo account with CMC Markets and practise trading with virtual funds. When you’re ready, you can apply for a live account.

I have been asked to provide certified documentation. What does this mean?

Depending on your circumstances and where you live, we may request that the documentation you submit be certified. A certified copy is a document that has been endorsed by an approved certifier as a true copy of the original document. An approved certifier of documents may be a(n):

  • Accountant
  • Ambassadorial staff member
  • Bank manager
  • Commissioner of oaths
  • Doctor
  • Law enforcement official
  • Lawyer
  • Notary public

The certification or stamp needs to appear on the page that shows the information we’ve asked for. We cannot accept a certified document with the certification on a separate page.

The certification on all certified copies should include:

  1. The statement: “Certified to be a true copy of the original”
  2. The name and signature of the person who has certified the document
  3. The certifier’s job title
  4. The certifier’s telephone number
  5. The certifier’s company stamp, if applicable, or their address
  6. The date of the certification

We can set up your account with scanned copies of your certified documents. However, you need to send us hard copies of the certified documents within two weeks of opening your account to withdraw funds.

Translated documents must be annotated with the wording “True translation” and signed and dated by the translator.

Why do you ask for my personal financial and employment information?

As a UK-regulated financial services firm, we must comply with the sector’s 'Know Your Customer' requirements. This involves checking and verifying the identity of our customers. We do this by obtaining information about our customers’ income, wealth and experience with financial products. The security of customers’ personal information is of the utmost importance to us. For more information, please read our privacy and security policy, which explains in detail how we handle personal information.

Can I have more than one CMC Markets account?

Each client can have one CFD account and one spread betting account with us.

Do I need to deposit funds to activate my account?

You can sign in to your account as soon as your application has been approved and you’ve clicked on the verification link sent to your registered email address. However, you won’t be able to place a trade in your live account until you’ve added sufficient funds to open a position. If you’d like to practise using our trading platform with virtual funds in a risk-free environment, you can open a free demo account.

How long does it take to process an application for a live account?

We aim to help you start trading as quickly as possible. In many cases, we can open a live account in as little as 60 seconds, though the length of the process can vary based on factors such as your location and eligibility.

If you’re a UK resident, you’ll get a response from us within 60 seconds of submitting your online application form. At this point, your account will either be open, or you’ll have received an email from us asking you to supply additional documents to support your live account application.

If you’re a non-UK resident, the live account application process typically takes two days. Once you have submitted your documents, we will contact you within one business day. The account opening process may be delayed if you cannot provide us with the required supporting documents.

I'd like someone to trade on my behalf. Can I appoint someone to trade for me?

Yes, you can give authority to another person to trade from your account on your behalf (a limited power of attorney). Please contact our Client Management team who can help set this up for you.

How can I switch between my different CMC Markets accounts?

It’s easy to switch between your CMC Markets accounts – for example, if you hold both a CFD trading account and a spread betting account with us.

If you’re using our desktop trading platform, go to the ‘My Accounts’ tab on the left of the screen and choose the account you wish to view from the list. Alternatively, click on your account number in the top-left corner of the screen and select the account you wish to view from the ‘Account Selection’ window.

If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, select the 'More' button (with the three dots), tap ‘Select Account’ and choose the account you wish to view.

On an Android device, tap the three lines at the top of the screen, then tap anywhere in the blue section at the top of the side menu and choose the account you wish to view from the list.
