Mastercard is a US financial services company with headquarters in New York. Founded in 1966, the business focuses on processing payments between merchant banks and card-issuing banks of purchasers who use the brand’s debit, credit, and prepaid cards to make transactions. It’s one of the largest payment networks in the world, operating in more than 210 countries and serving individual consumers, businesses of all sizes, governments, and financial institutions. There’s approximately 1 billion Mastercard credit cards circulating across the world as of 2022, and the company also owns subsidiary brands such as Maestro, Mondex, and Cirrus.
