Can I go long and short on the same product at the same time and if so, how can this be done?

You are able to do this, unless you have added a guaranteed stop-loss order to your trade. 

To enable this feature, you will need to deactivate 'Account Netting.' Go to 'Account Settings' and then un-tick the box which says 'Enable Account Netting for this Account.' 

From 16 November 2024, with Account Netting disabled, you will be charged margin in addition to fees (namely holding costs) on both sides of the trade. 

Please note that shorting certain instruments may not be permitted - check the 'Product Overview' for confirmation. 

Why do I need to download a new version of the CMC Markets mobile app?

We make important improvements to our mobile apps to enhance your trading experience. The new version ensures you have access to the latest functionalities.

We will be making an important update to the way margin is charged, which requires you to download a new version of our mobile app. This change will come into effect from 16 November 2024 and recommend that you download the new app version prior to this date to avoid any disruptions to your trading.

How can I learn to use the CMC Markets platform?

How secure is your platform?

We use the internationally accepted security system SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for all account functionalities, including fund deposits and withdrawals. This system is automatic and you will receive an instant notification if your browser does not support it.

Can I log into my account via your website and my mobile device at the same time?

No. You are only able to access your account through either the website or your mobile device at any one time. If you attempt to log in to both platforms at the same time you will be disconnected from your previous session.

Are there any devices from I can’t access the platform?

The CMC Markets app is currently available for download on Apple's iPhone and iPad, and Android devices. You can also log in to the platform using any Windows phone via the web browser on your device.

How do I find my account number on the mobile app?

On Apple devices, select the 'More' button and then 'Account Details'. On Android devices, select the side menu (button with three lines) or swipe from the left and select 'Account Details'.

How can I partially close trades on the mobile app?

To partially close trades on the mobile app, select 'Positions' at the bottom left of the screen and then click on the red cross. You can then amend the amount/stake for the trade you wish to close.  Once you've confirmed this, your trade will be partially closed by the amount you entered. You will be able to see the remaining part of the trade in the positions window.

Can I attach a stop-loss or take-profit order to an existing position on the app?

Select 'Positions' in the bottom left of the screen on the iPhone app (or from the left side menu on Android devices), and choose the position that you would like to add the stop-loss or take-profit order to, then select ‘Stop Loss’ or ‘Take Profit’.

How can I switch accounts?

On Apple devices, the account number appears at the top right hand corner of the screen. On Android devices, select the side menu (button with three lines).

Where can I find holding costs on mobile?

Select ‘Positions’ on the Home Page or ‘Account’ at the bottom of the screen on the iPhone App and choose the position that you would like to add the stop loss or take profit order, followed by selecting either adding the stop loss or take profit via modifying the position.

Where can I find market data feeds on my mobile?

To switch between your CFD accounts, select “More” at the bottom right of iPhone App, choose “Select Account”, “Account Selection”.

How do I partially close a position on the mobile apps?

Yes, you should be able to access the platform and mobile apps when travelling abroad, providing you have sufficient network connection or are connected to Wi-Fi.

Please note, that there are geo-restrictions in place for certain countries on iOS devices. You will  be able to access the platform only the following countries: Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belgium, British Virgin Islands, Bulgaria, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, China mainland, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, South Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mauritius, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom. If you are going to travel outside of our licensed permitted countries, the iPhone app may prevent you from accessing your account.

How can I attach a stop loss or take profit order to an existing position using the mobile app?

Log in to the app, select 'Positions' at the bottom left of the screen and then select the position to which you would like to attach the stop loss or take profit order. Then select 'Stop Loss' or 'Take Profit'

Where can I find my account number?

Your account number can be found in the top left-hand corner of your platform screen. You can also find your account number in the email that you received confirming your account is open.

Can I leave feedback?

Yes, you can. Click on 'Feedback' under the 'Support' menu within the platform to send your comments to us. We're constantly working to improve our service and we welcome your comments. Any feedback received is sent directly to our Product Development team, and many of our platform enhancements are a direct result of client feedback.

Where can I find holding costs on the web platform?

On the web platform, select the arrow on the left-hand side of the product or the three lines from the top left of a chart, and choose 'Product Overview'. From this window you can view the previous 30 days' worth of holding rates. For more information on how to calculate these costs, please visit our CFD holding costs.

Am I able to access my account history?

If you select 'Account' and then 'History', you can view your history for different timeframes. Filter by selecting 'date/time' in the top left-hand corner and also filter by 'type' to just view payments in, for example. You can export your account history as a pdf or excel file using the icons in the bottom left-hand corner.

Is there support on the platform?

The support section within the platform provides a comprehensive and free range of on-demand videos and written guides. These comprise platform tours, trading strategy videos, access to live education events, our Trading Smart series and quick-start user guide, which helps you quickly familiarise yourself with the many features and tools available on our platform.

Why and how does the minimum distance on a guaranteed stop-loss order (GSLO) change?

Our Risk Management team determines the minimum distance for GSLOs on specific products, depending on market volatility and risk preference of that product on the day.

Can I contact someone for help from within the platform?

Yes, you can contact our Client Management team when the markets are open through the 'Live Help' or  'Support' menu on the platform under ‘Enable Account Netting for this Account’.

How to open a demo MT4 account

These are the steps to open a demo account with MT4:

  1. Apply for a demo account

  2. Create an MT4 password within the admin portal

  3. Follow the live account login steps outlined above (but select the demo server – you can find the server name at the top of the emails we sent you during the application process)

How to fund your account

Fund your MT4 account through the admin portal on a PC or Mac or via our MT4 funding portal on your mobile.

Funding via Desktop

Once you’ve logged in, use the open ‘Payments’ window to deposit via card, PayPal or bank transfer. If the payments window is not open, please select this from the main navigation menu.

Note: Your MT4 platform and the admin portal have different passwords which are not kept in sync.

Funding via a Mobile Device

Add our MT4 funding portal to your mobile device for quick funding access by following the steps below:

1.) Open the Safari browser app on your phone.

2.) Visit our MT4 funding portal

3.) Tap the share button located at the bottom of the screen

4.) The payment page will now be added to your home screen for quick access

5.) Click on the newly-added icon on your home screen and login to the funding portal with your CMC admin portal username and password (this is different from your MT4 platform details)

6.) Once logged in, you will be presented with our payments page where you will be able to find instructions on how to deposit funds from a debit card or bank transfer

2.) Visit our MT4 funding portal

3.) Tap the menu icon in the top right of the chrome browser and select 'Add to Home Screen' from the list

4.) The payment page will now be aded to your home screen for quick access

How is margin charged on MT4?

If you are going long and short on the same product at the same time on MT4, you will be charged margin in addition to fees (namely holding costs) on both sides of the trade. 

Please note that shorting certain instruments may not be permitted - check the 'Product Overview' for confirmation.

Firstly, you will need to download and install the MT4 platform.

You can do so via the admin portal or the button below. Please note the download link does not work on mobile and tablet devices.

How to log in for the first time?

Please remember that your MT4 password is different from your CMC Markets admin portal password. To set your MT4 password, please log in to the admin portal using the password you created on the application form.

1. Launch the MT4 platform. The icon shortcut should be available on your desktop once you have downloaded and installed MT4.

2. Connect to the CMC server. You can find the server name at the top of the emails we sent you during the application process.

3. Select ‘Existing trade account’ to log in.

4. The following details will now be required:
    a) Login (this is your MT4 account ID)
    b)Your MT4 password

5. ​You should now be logged in. You can verify this by looking at the 'Journal' tab and the icon in the status bar at the bottom.

Why do I need two passwords?

When you trade on MT4 with us, you need one password to log in and trade on the MT4 platform, and one to log in to the admin portal.

In the admin portal, you can fund your MT4 account quickly and easily, manage your passwords and view your account balance. You can also view your open positions.
 
You admin portal password is the one you specify in our online MT4 application form (or your existing Next Generation password if you already have an account with us).

Your MT4 password can then be set up within the admin platform.

How to log in after the first time

1. Launch the MT4 platform. The icon shortcut should be available on your desktop. The MT4 platform will open on your screen.

2. In the ‘Navigator’ section on the left of the platform you should see the account you first logged in with. The Navigator window can be toggled on and off using Ctrl+N.

3. Select (double-click) the account you want to access and enter the following details:
    a) Login (this is your MT4 account ID)
    b) Your MT4 password 

4You should now be logged in. You can verify this by looking at the ‘Journal’ and the icon in the status bar at the bottom.​

What products can I trade on MT4?

We currently offer selected forex, indices and commodities products. You can also trade on shares through our CMC platform via a separate CMC CFD account.

Can I use MT4 on a Mac?

MT4 is designed to be used on a PC using what is called a .NET framework. For information on installing on a Mac device, please refer to this link.

Can I use MT4 on mobile?

Yes. MT4 can be used on Android and Apple devices. Simply search for ‘MT4’ in the Google Play and App Store.

How do I view my MT4 trade history?

To view your trade history through MT4, log in to MT4 and go to the 'terminal' window.

Choose the 'account history' tab at the bottom of the terminal window. From here you can right click anywhere within the window; this will prompt you to select which history you'd like to download.

How do I add an Expert Advisor or indicator to MT4?

To add an EA, open MT4 and go to ‘file.’ Then ‘open data folder’. Choose ‘MQL4’, and then ‘expert advisors’ or ‘indicators’.

You can then copy the file you want to add and drag/drop it into your preferred location. Close and reopen MT4, and you should see the item in the navigator window.

Why do I need a CMC platform account for MT4?

We use our native built, award-winning CMC trading platform to facilitate funding limitations within the MT4 platform and provide a secure funding process for our clients.

On top of funding, withdrawals and account information, your access to this CMC platform account also offers a market calendar, Reuters and client sentiment tools.

Where can I view my statement and account balance?

You can find your MT4 account statements within the CMC platform account.

You can access this by clicking on “Statement Centre” located in the "Account tab", which is found on the main menu.

What is the maximum trade size for MT4?

The maximum trade size varies depending on the product.

For more specific product information, right-click on the product inside the ‘marketwatch’ window and select “specification.” This will provide more detailed information about minimum and maximum trade size for that product.

What is the maximum margin and other costs associated with MT4?

The MT4 platform is free. Standard holding costs and spreads apply to most products as with our CMC trading platform.

What server do I use to access CMC Markets prices?

For your demo account, you will need to use: “CMCMarkets1-Demo”.

For your live account, you will need to use: “CMCMarkets1-Live”.

VPS subscription is an exclusive, free* service for CMC Markets clients. To qualify for a Beeks account, you will need to have a CMC Markets CFD account and trade a minimum 15 standard lots per calendar month.

I've joined in the middle of the month – do I still need to meet the threshold?

The monthly volume requirement is pro-rata. If you joined halfway through the month, you would only have to trade half the month's volume requirement.

What happens if I don't meet the trading threshold?

VPS subscription is an exclusive, free* service for CMC Markets clients who qualify for the subscription. To qualify for a Beeks account, you will need to trade a minimum 15 standard lots per calendar month.

Do I need a CMC Markets account for access to a VPS?
