About UK Gilt - Cash
The UK Gilt treasury is based on the bond security issued by the UK government or the Debt Management Office (DMO). There are two types of UK gilt: convention and index-linked gilts. Conventional gilts are the most common type of gilt, which pay a fixed cash payment to investors known as a coupon every six months. When the bond matures upon expiry date, the investors receive the initial investment back. Index-linked gilts are less common and have coupons and principal payments that are adjusted in-line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) inflation measure. Gilts are considered to be relatively stable investments, as the UK government has never failed to pay interest or principal on gilts upon their due date.
